WOW (Nelson Part 3)

As we planned, today was a quiet one. We slept in, had breakfast, and then headed to the World of Wearable Art & Classic Car Museum, where of course we began with coffee. We started in the car museum section, where they have an extensive collection of classic cars, from the early 1900s to recent. It took us about 2 hours to get through it all.

This is the "Classic Collection" section, but it was really more the storage building rather than the museum, and housed about 2/3 of the collection.

There were lots of old English cars, of course. How does this make your stomach feel, Catherine? If not the same model, Grandpa's was very close.
The next hour or so we went through the World of Wearable Art display. These are the outfits from last years World of Wearable Art Awards Show, now held in Wellington, but started in Nelson in 1988. An interesting, but bizarre art exhibit, the show looks like a lot of fun.
From there, we had a late lunch at another Speights Ale House, and then wandered downtown Nelson for a bit. We had to stop at the cathedral of course, although the view down Trafalgar Street was a bit more interesting. A nice wide street somewhat like Sparks in Ottawa, although there is traffic.
We're still debating tomorrow's agenda, but think we might take the drive up to Takaka. Nelson and Marahau are pretty artsy and laid back, and they say Takaka is a hippy town, so might be interesting to see. There are also some really neat sounding natural things, including Harwood's Hole (183m deep), Ngarua Caves, and Pupu Springs. We'll have to see what we can fit in!

  1. Ugh, if that car has a tortoiseshell dash, it's the vomit-comet for me!
